PALM BEACH, Fla. — The Lee University women's lacrosse team received the NCAA D2 Team Community Awareness Award the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced on Friday at its annual meeting.

PALM BEACH, Fla. — The Lee University women's lacrosse team received the NCAA D2 Team Community Awareness Award the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced on Friday at its annual meeting.
 
The Team Community Awareness Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions by one team from each division on their campus and in their local community was presented to Marquette University (Division I), Lee University (Division II), and Alma College (Division III).
 
"We are very honored to be recognized by our coaches association (IWLCA) as the most outstanding in community service from among the nation's 116 Division II women's lacrosse teams," said Lee head coach Derrel Martin.
 
"Community service is an important part of our team culture and our players dedicated many selfless hours to help their community. 
 
"Coach Megan Smith did an amazing job of coordinating many of the service activities.  In addition to some campus service opportunities, our team served several local charities, schools, and sports programs to perform over 500 hours of community service," he added.
 
The IWLCA announced its 2018-2019 award winners at the Palm Beach County Convention Center during the 2019 Annual Meeting.
 
In addition to the Victory Club, Outstanding Assistant Coach awards, Regional and National Coach of the Year Awards, and the Team Community Awareness Awards that were presented during the Meetings, the IWLCA recognized the winners of the Service Award, President's Cup, and Diane Geppi Aikens Memorial Award at the Hall of Fame and Honors Banquet Dinner.
 
The Lady Flames will open year two of the Martin era on Feb. 8 as they host Mars Hill College at 2 p.m.
