Kathryn Rice Ball

Kathryn Rice Ball passed away peacefully at the age of 97. 

She was born on June 20, 1920, in Ocoee, the daughter of Oliver Wayne Rice and Pearl Cate Rice.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe W. Ball;  brothers, Dr. James G. Rice, Wayne Felix Rice, Harold Rice, and Oliver W. Rice Jr.; and sister, Jewell Rice Nicholson.

She is survived by her daughters: Katy Jo Tippens (Jimmy) and Donna Marie Casteel (Ben); grandchildren: Jamie Tippens Slagle (Steven), Joe M. Thomas (Melanie), and Kristin Tippens Hughes (Bill);  great-grandchildren William R. Slagle and Owen J. Thomas; sister, Mildred Rice Broxton of Pensacola, Fla.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

She was a graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan College and a member of Cedar Springs Baptist Church.

She enjoyed flower gardening, sewing, cooking, decorating her home, and spending time with family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at Companion Funeral Home, located at 2419 Georgetown Road N.W., Cleveland.

A Celebration of Life service will follow the visitation, beginning at 3 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Terry Bowden officiating.

Following the service, she will be laid to rest in the Cedar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dixie Day Spay, McCracken Kitty Kat Rescue, or Cedar Springs Cemetery maintenance fund.
