It is with broken hearts that we are announcing the passing of our daddy. We take solace in knowing he is now resting in the sweet arms of Jesus.
Jerold Bates, 63, of Benton, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luke and Carrie Bates; sisters: Billie Carroll and Annette Hooper; and brothers: Wilford Bates, Ray Bates and James “Jimmy” Bates.
Survivors include his daughters: Heather Boles of Cleveland, and Melody Bates of Etowah; son, Bryan Bates of Benton; grandchildren: Halli Bates, Ashlyn Bates and Hayden Boles; sister: Doreen Bates of Apex, N.C., Kay Woodruff of Sweetwater, and Nina Rowland of Athens; brothers: Mickey Bates of Reliance, Danny Bates of Delano, and Ross Bates of Durham, N.C.; and several nieces, nephews and other extended family.
The funeral will be held at noon on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019, in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home of Etowah, with the Rev. Pete Morgan officiating.
Interment will follow the service to Burchfield Cemetery in Polk County.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, prior to the service.
Bryan Bates, Mickey Bates, Jamie Boles, Danny Bates, Charles Adams, special friends and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
