Jaunita McCoy Minter

Jaunita McCoy Minter, 92, of Cleveland, formerly of Cartersville, Ga., went to be with Jesus on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017, at her home.

Born in Bartow County, Ga., she became a Christian at the age of 11. At the age of 13, she would travel to revivals conducted by her father to sing and play the guitar.

She was a wonderful Christian lady, a true example of what a godly wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend should be. She epitomized Proverbs 31:10-31.

She worked most of her life as a homemaker and helper to her husband of 66 years, Bishop Sherman H. Minter, who pastored churches for more than 50 years in Georgia and Alabama. She loved to write songs, poems and stories. She had a beautiful alto voice and enjoyed singing.

She was a marvelous cook and homemaker, always putting the needs of others before her own. When she was able, she loved planting flowers, trees and shrubs, turning sparse areas into gardens.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bishop Sherman H. Minter; her parents, Bishop Grady McCoy and Ida Elrod McCoy; two brothers, Harrison McCoy and John G. McCoy Jr.; and one sister, Mildred McCoy Hogan.

She was survived by her five children: Brenda Minter (Donald) Dial of Manor, Ga., Raymond H. (Helen) Minter of Cartersville, Cathy A. Minter of Sandersville, Ga., Shermanda Greenway (Mark) Kloos of Cleveland, and Kenny H. (Debra) Minter of Sandersville; 10 grandchildren: Anita Dial (Eddie) Smith of Villa Rica, Tim (Amy) Dial of Brandon, Miss., Lori Minter (Jack) Morris of Brooklet, Ga., Eric Minter of Panama City, Fla., Shaun (Theresa) Greenway of Cleveland, Jason (Kristi) Greenway of Etowah, Mark Greenway of Cleveland, Caleb Minter of Plainville, Ga., Jessa Minter of Sandersville, Ga. and Shannon Minter (Caleb) Steincamp of Milledgeville, Ga.; 17 great-grandchildren; six great-great- grandchildren; two sisters: Elizabeth McCoy Weatherston of Rustburg, Va., Martha McCoy Worley of Calhoun, Ga.; two brothers: Sam McCoy and Harold McCoy, both of Kingston, Ga.; and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Viewing will be today, from 5 to 6 p.m. for family and 6 to 8 p.m. for friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, Oct., 19, 2017, at The Church of God of Prophecy, 337 Gilmer St., Cartersville. The body will lie in repose from 10 to 11 a.m., with the service beginning at 11 a.m.

Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cartersville. Pallbearers are Tim Dial, Shaun Greenway, Jason Greenway, Mark Greenway, Caleb Minter and Chase Greenway.

The family gives special thanks to the CNAs, nurses, therapists and physicians who provided care to their mother, especially during this last year.

Flowers are welcome, but if you wish, donations may be made in her honor to her church, The Church of God of Prophecy, 337 Gilmer St., Cartersville, Ga., in care of Sarah Martin, treasurer (770) 655-5386.
