Jane Alice Murphy Hixson died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, after a rich, full life dedicated to family.
She was born in Big Stone Gap, Va., on Sept. 30, 1939. In 1950, her family moved to Chattanooga, where she graduated from Chattanooga High School and attended The University of Chattanooga. A sister of Pi Beta Phi sorority, Jane was voted the University’s Military Queen in 1957.
She married Robert R. “Reggie” Hixson of Cleveland, in 1959. The couple lived in Rossville, Ga., and raised three sons, Tad, Chris, and Patrick, while members of St. Elmo United Methodist Church. Jane worked at American National Bank and at McCallie School where she coordinated McCallie’s Host Family Program, pairing boarding students with Chattanooga families for a temporary home away from home.
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018, in the Narthex of First-Centenary United Methodist Church, 419 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the sanctuary.
