Howard Nathaniel Lumley Jr., 93, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2018, in a Chattanooga hospital.
He was born in Greensboro, N.C., and he was the son of the late Nezzie Jones Lumley and H.N. Lumley. His first wife, Hunter Lou Lumley; mother-in-law, Florence “ Flossie” Jarvis Stanford; his sister, Helen Ann Wade; nephew, Jack Wade Jr.; and brother-in-law, Bill Ferris, also preceded him in death.
He was a World War II Army veteran. He served in Germany and received the Army of Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He received his Bachelors degree in Agriculture and Engineering Textiles from North Carolina State University. He retired from Burlington Industries as a supervisor with over 20 years of service. After retirement, he worked for Rolling Hills Golf Course. He was an avid golfer and scored a hole in one! In his younger days, he enjoyed playing fastpitch softball.
He was a Presbyterian.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Rosetta Marie Lumley of Cleveland; sisters-in-law: Mary Ferris of Florida, and Shirley Crumley and her husband, Tony, of Cleveland; brothers-in-law,: Jack Wade Sr. of North Carolina, and Ron Green of Cleveland; nephew, Doug Wade and his wife, Jody, of North Carolina; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces: Linsey Wade, Anna Wade, and Sarah Wade; and great-nephew, Ethan Wade.
The Remembrance of Life service will be conducted Thursday, June 14, 2018, at 1 p.m. at the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee Chapel with the Rev. Larry Chastain officiating.
Interment will follow in the Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as casket bearers. Military Honors will be given, and a dove release will conclude the service.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee Chapel.
