Hopewell's Braddock Tippit gets his ‘Buddy Bench’

Posted

Braddock Tippit, a fourth-grade student at Hopewell Elementary School, has fostered a dream since the first grade. With the help of his brother, Caleb Hixon, a professional welder, Braddock pushed for the installation of a Buddy Bench for the school playground.

"I wanted to help the lonely kids at our school and to find a way to make it easier for kids to meet new friends,” Tippit said. "No one should be left out, because it hurts.”

Taking a seat on the bench signals others on the playground that the person needs a friend today, and classmates make a choice to be a friend by having a conversation at the bench.

"Our playground is a better place when we care about everyone,” Tippit said.

The bench was installed in 2018, and remains available for students at Hopewell to use.
