Helga Blankenship


Helga Blankenship, 84, of Cleveland, departed this life on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019, at Signature Healthcare.

Born in Germany on July 26, 1935, to the late Karl and Mina Hoffman Arht, she lived in Bradley County since 1981, and was a member of South View Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Freddie Blankenship; grandson, Kristopher Blankenship; two brothers: Karl Arlt and Horst Arlt; and one sister, Sonja Olotoa.

Survivors include five children: Rosemarie Baez (Tommy Thompson), Barbara Maynard (Billy McDowell) of Cleveland, Andrea (David) Jones of Cleveland, Sandra (Rickey) Hutcheson of Cleveland, and Bridget Woody of Cleveland; special Patricia Shrouder; grandchildren: Sean Baez, Stephanie Baez, Sabrina Baez, Lashanda Blankenship, Brandi Marcrom, Amanda Pope, Kirstin Jones, Samantha Hutcheson, and Jacob Hutcheson; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Gisela Singleton; three brothers: Irmghart Spohn, Gerhart Arlt and Hardmut Arlt; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

A Celebration of Life and Homegoing for Helga Blankenship will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2019, from the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with the playing of bagpipes and a white dove release ceremony to conclude the services.

The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. on Sunday, prior to the service.
