David Roy and Brenda Gale (Flowers) Evans, who married on March 15, 1967, are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Cleveland natives Mr. Evans is the son of the late L.A. and Margie Evans, and Mrs. Evans is the daughter of Dorothy Flowers of Cleveland and the late James Fowers. The anniversary couple met at Oak Grove School when she was 13 and he was 17. They ran off to get married when she was 16 and he was 19. A family member, his uncle Jude, signed for them. They continued to attend school without telling anyone for several weeks. Then one day, they left school, and called home from Florida to surprise everyone with the news, “We are married!” The Evanses have lived in Bradley County and raised four children (two are married), and have seven grandchildren (one married), and four great-grandchildren.
