BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Lee University Track & Field teams swept this week’s Gulf South Conference weekly honors following their performances at the Mt. SAC Relays this past weekend.

Harold Smith was selected the GSC Track Performer of the Week, Josiah Brooks earned GSC Field Performer of the Week honors and Christian Noble was the GSC Freshman of the Week. On the women’s side, Adrian Martin was selected the GSC Track Performer of the Week. There were no selections made for Field Performer or Freshman of the Week for the women.

Smith was the first NCAA Division II athlete to finish the 800-meter run. He finished fifth overall with a provisional mark of 1:50.44. The time ranks the junior eighth in DII and second in the GSC.

Brooks placed sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 14.86 meters. He is currently ranked No. 14 nationally in the event and first in the GSC. This is the second time this season Brooks has won this award.

Noble placed eighth overall and was the second DII competitor to cross the finish line. His time of 8:56.93 was just over four seconds shy of the automatic qualifying mark (8:52.70). The freshman improved his provisional time and currently holds the eighth fastest time in DII this season. The mark also set a new Lee record. This is the fourth time this season Noble has won this award.

Martin placed 21st in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.85. Her time ranks her second in the GSC. The senior also finished 27th with a provisional time of 24.43 in the 200-meter dash. Martin’s 200-meter dash time also ranks her second in the GSC. This is the third time this season, second consecutive week, that Martin has won this award.

“Each one of these athletes had a very productive meet this past weekend,” said Lee head coach Caleb Morgan. “This is great recognition moving into the conference championship.”

The GSC Championships are scheduled for today through Saturday, April 22, at Historic Barron Stadium in Rome, Ga. Shorter University is serving as the host.
