The South East Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind met in November with its guest speaker, Officer Jennifer Samples from the Cleveland Police Department, discussing self-defense.

Samples spoke to the group about self-defense and how to protect ourselves as blind and visually impaired individuals while out in the community. She showed  different types of self-defense tools and how to use a cane, for example, as a weapon to protect from danger.

Companion Funeral Home is the new sponsor. They  providing lunch at the monthly meeting, which included  chicken and fixings from Walmart South's deli.

The South East Chapter is an active, social, support and advocacy group for the blind and visually impaired of Bradley County and surrounding areas.

The next meeting is Monday, Dec. 10, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the Cleveland Family YMCA located at 220 Urbane Road in the Party Room.  This will include the annual Christmas Party then. Please bring a $15 to $20 wrapped gift for The Dirty Santa Game and your favorite Christmas confection to share with the group.

The next activity is Monday, Dec. 17,  1:30 to 4 p.m., at Leisure Time Bowling located at 2739 Keith St. There will be two games of bowling and shoes for $6. Please bring money for bowling and snack bar. If you know anyone who is blind or visually impaired, please invite them to come and join the support group.
