FCE announces Cultural Arts winners

Bradley County Family and Community members entered a variety of entries at the annual Bradley County FCE Cultural Arts competition.

Doreen Johnson, Taylors FCE member, won first place with her beaded necklace which was in the Beadwork category. Her entry was also selected as the Viewer’s Choice Winner. She received first place with her jewelry-non-beaded entry.

Phyllis Narus, Sunshine FCE Club member, was first-place winner in the run-making category with her wool rug entry. She also placed first in the weaving-loom category with her table runner entry, first with her handcrafted toy and with her salt and pepper shakers in the ceramics category.

Brenda Derryberry, Prospectors FCE member, placed first with her photography-color entry, second with her weaving-loom baby blanket entry and first place with her paper craft entry.

Annette Sullivan, Prospectors FCE member, won first place with her counted cross-stitch holiday Christmas tree entry, first place with her first place with her embroidery-hand entry and second place with her beadwork pillow entry. She also placed first with her quilt and with her quilt-pillow entry.

Linda Humphreys, Flint Springs FCE member, placed first with her crochet afghan entry and third with her beadwork entry.

Cyndi Tinsley, Prospectors FCE member, was first in decorative painting entry and in holiday decoration.June Parks, Taylors FCE member, placed first with her fine art painting-acrylics entry and third place with her photography color entry.

Paula Caldwell, Taylors FCE member, was first with her repurposing entry and second with her cross-stitch (counted) entry.

Pauline Cartwright, Taylors FCE member, took first with her knitting- hand entry.

Kaye Smith, Taylors FCE member, placed second with her photography-color entry.

Jean Cross and Flow Mintey, Sunshine FCE members, participated in the FCE Fashion Revue in the My Best Fashion Purchased Items category.

Jean Cross also received first place with her creative writing entry.

The first and second place FCE Cultural Arts and Fashion Revue winners will be eligible to compete at the regional level in Knoxville September 18.

Hostesses for the annual Bradley County FCE Cultural Arts activities included Prospectors FCE Club members Brenda Derryberry, Ann Gray, Annette Sullivan and Laura Weaver.

The Sunshine FCE members, Jean Cross and Flow Mintey were responsible for the registration of the FCE Cultural Arts event.

UT/TSU Program Assistants Kathryn Ervin and Kathy Hayes served as judges for the event.
