Faulty insulator causes VEC power outage during storm

A power outage affected approximately 1,100 Volunteer Energy Cooperative customers Sunday, after an insulator failed during a major rainstorm.

According to VEC spokesperson Julie Jones, the outage took place from Sunday night to early Monday morning.

Jones said the type of equipment failure is difficult to locate, even when the weather is good. She said the heavy rain made the repair more difficult to complete.

"We called in extra crews," Jones said. "They stuck to it until it was repaired."

All VEC members affected by the outage had power by 3:15 a.m., Jones said.

Jones thanked customers for their patience.
