Eugene Canup

Eugene “Gene” Canup Jr., 75, a longtime resident of Cleveland, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019, at a local healthcare facility surrounded by loved ones.

"Gene" was a dedicated member and deacon at Bellefounte Baptist Church, along with being very involved in the community as the president of the Charleston School PTO a number of years ago.

He loved to bowl, play golf, and do yard work among other things. Gene served his country in the United States Army. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who loved spending time with his family. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his father, Homer Eugene Canup Sr.; mother, Thelma Turner Canup; daughter, Miranda Canup; and brother, David Canup. 

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Cathy Nunnelly Canup; daughters: Michelle Canup, and Jennifer (Britt) Griffin; grandchildren: Millie and Ellie Canup; sister, Elaine (Joe) Austin; along with numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and extended family.

The family will receive friends Thursday, 4:30 to 7 p.m., at Bellefounte Baptist Church.

The Celebration of Life service will be held  Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019,  at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to Bellefounte Baptist Church in his memory.

Companion Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
