Edith Sue Carden, 96, born Dec. 29, 1920, in Cookson Creek, in Polk County, passed away Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017, at a health care center in Knoxville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Oliver Carden of Cookson Creek, and Virginia Blankenship Carden, of Cookson Creek and Knoxville; sisters: Helen Carden and Reba Carden (Rudy) Colson and Mary Lou Carden Midkiff, all of Knoxville; nieces: Sharon Midkiff (David) Damalouji of Huntingtown, Md., Kay Colson (McRae) Sharpe of Knoxville, and Kimberly Midkiff of New York, N.Y.; and numerous grand- and great-grand-nieces and nephews.
She attended Polk County High School and McKenzie Business College in Chattanooga. She worked for Holston Army Ammunition Plant in Kingsport during World War II, and for the Veteran’s Administration in Washington, D.C. She also worked for Allis-Chalmers in Knoxville.
The family expresses appreciation to the staff at Shannondale Health Care Center in Knoxville.
A graveside service will be held today, Sept. 13, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery.
