Earl Paul Daugherty

Earl Paul Daugherty

Earl Paul Daugherty, 87, of Cleveland, passed away Monday morning, Jan. 15, 2018, after a long and difficult battle with dementia.

He was a member of the South Cleveland Church of God, where he served for many years as the church trustee.

Originally from Kentucky, he joined the army and served in the Korean War effort and was awarded a Purple Heart for his bravery. He worked for the L&N Railroad and retired in 1978 and moved to Cleveland in 1981 with his family. He was a hard-working man who dedicated his life to helping others. One thing he was known for was his gardening and visiting ministry to the sick and shut in. He was always there for anyone who needed him.

He was a loving husband and was devoted to his five children in every way possible. He was a simple man with simple tastes and would have done anything for his family. He believed in this country, supported the Disabled American Veterans Fund, and was the truest definition of hero to us.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Millard and Edith Daugherty; brother, Charles Ray Daugherty; and first wife, Faye Collins Daugherty.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Janice Daugherty; daughter, Paula Farmer of Corbin, Ky.; sons: Paul Ray Daugherty and wife, Irene, of St. Augustine, Fla., and Robert Daugherty; daughters: Sandra Henderson and husband, Chuck, and Earlene Guire and husband, Kevin Guire, all of Cleveland; sister, Gennita Bryant of Wallins Creek, Ky.; brothers: Glenn Daugherty of Lancaster, Ky., and Johnny Daugherty of Mason, Ohio; grandchildren: Shannon Farmer, and Angel Stevens of Corbin, Ky., Tammy Strot of Bradenton, Fla., Thomas Daugherty of Florida, Cassie Hall and Ben Henderson of Cleveland, Brianna Daugherty of Nashville, and Maddie Guire of Cleveland; great-grandchildren: Sam Farmer, Cole Stevens, Max Farmer, Maverick Strot, Aspen Strot,  Thomas Daugherty, Tucker Daugherty, Savannah Daugherty, Annabelle Stevens, Benjamin Stevens and Adalynn Hall, and Hailey, Alexis and Kirra Hunter.

The family will receive friends at Fike Funeral Home on Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, at 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., with the service in the chapel at 12:30 p.m.

Graveside service and interment will be in Chattanooga at the National Cemetery immediately following the service at 2:30 p.m.
