Dennis E. Ownby Sr,

Dennis E. Ownby Sr, 78, of Chattanooga, passed away Nov. 22, 2017.

He was born Oct. 13, 1939, in Knoxville. He graduated from Bearden High School in 1956 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1963, aboard the USS Bell Grove LSD2. He held different occupations throughout his life, but retired from Shaw Transportation in October 2013. He was a member of Woodland Park Baptist Church.
 
He was preceded in death by his mother, Leona Sloan Ownby; father, Cecil Ownby; daughter, Lisa Ownby, and brother, Melvin Ownby.
 
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda; daughter, Crissy (Marty) Hubbs; son, Butch (Meredith) Ownby; five grandchildren: Jacob, Katie (Nick) McConathy, Jadah, Landon and Caleb; three great-grandchildren: Austin, Laney and Coleman McConathy; sister, Evelyn Moore; brother, Cecil Lee Ownby; and many special cousins, nieces and nephews.

Pastor Bruce Daugherty will officiate the memorial service at Woodland Park Baptist Church, 6735 Standifer Gap Road, Chattanooga, on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017.
 
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. with the service following at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Woodland Park Baptist Church Building fund or Gideons International. (www2.gideons.org/donate).
