Dem’s points countered by conservative

This letter is in regard to a letter sent in by Mr. Mike Atchley, dated Aug. 5, 2017.

Mr. Atchley, I have found it useful to gather facts before making open replies in public. I have also found it useful, when making those replies, to do so with a touch of kindness and civility. A recent [Letter to the Editor] of yours listed three counters to Mrs. Chappell.

Point 1 (Abortion):

It is true the Supreme Court ruled abortion legal in 1973. It is also true that close to 60 million innocent lives have been destroyed since that ruling. And yes, Mr. Nixon was president at the time, but presidents do not have a vote on the matter. However, he did appoint two justices who voted in favor of the law, but overall it was four Democrat justices and three Republican justices who put this terrible law into effect.

Presidents do not control Supreme Court justices, nor should they ever. In this case, five justices were appointed by Republican presidents and two were appointed by Democrat presidents.

Point 2 (Trump and Russia):

Like you, I am tired of the “Russia story” being constantly fed to us by our media and the Democratic Party. But, the story is slowly going away because it is not true and never had any merit. The Democrats were so let down due to their defeat last November that they started grasping at straws. It goes to show you, never trust polls from either side. They are completely useless.

As far as the rest of your point, you are right. It was not just Democrats who caused our problems. Republicans did their share of the damage, but those problems were there before Trump. Hopefully, he can change the direction of our country.

Point 3:

This is probably the easiest to debunk of your three points. I am old enough to remember the pictures in the newspaper of riots in the 1960s. It was not Republicans who were blocking the civil rights of others. I will give the Democrat Party an “atta boy” for the disgraceful way they have shifted their faults to others. In psychology, it is called projection.

The Republican Party has to take their share of the blame, too. They have been, and still are, too weak to stand up to the Democrats and media.

Hopefully, these points will help you, but I have found that most people on the liberal left have their minds made up and pretty much nothing, including facts, will change it.
