The Rev. Dean Fugate, 81, a resident of Calhoun, passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2018.
He was born on June 13, 1936, to the late Esper and Grace Fugate.
He served in both the U.S. Army and the National Guard, totaling 13 years of service to our nation. He pastored numerous local churches, always being known for having a fervent heart for the Lord and a servant’s heart for others. Many also know him from his employment at Bowater for many years. He loved God, his family, his friends, and the military. He made a great impact on every life he touched, and he will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Brian Vallejo; and siblings:Lewis Fugate, William Fugate and Lois Fugate Evans.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 61 years, Peggy Heifner Fugate; children, Jeff Fugate (Ric Morris) and Valerie Fugate Vallejo (Alex); grandchildren, Tiffany Phillips (Chad), and Andre Vallejo; great-grandchildren, Xavier Hicks, Bella Hicks, Liam Phillips and Christian Vallejo; siblings, Martha Fugate Ayer, Juanita Fugate and Alice Fugate Shamblin (Jim); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Companion Funeral Home, located at 2419 Georgetown Road N.W., Cleveland, TN 37311.
A Celebration of Life service will follow the visitation, beginning at 7 p.m., in the chapel of Companion Funeral Home. Dr. Barry Purser and the Rev. Dr. Harry Lawrence will be officiating, with the Rev. Albert Gentry giving remarks.
He will be laid to rest on Thursday, noon, in the Calhoun Cemetery.
