On Saturday, Nov. 12, the Cleveland High School Dance Team and the Cleveland Middle School Dance Team traveled to Atlanta to compete in the Inferno Spirit Dance and Cheer Invitational. Both teams found success there,

The talented CHS dancers took home many awards of excellence. They won first place in the Senior Pom Division and first place in the Senior Hip Hop Division, defeating Westover High School, Milton High School and Lakeside High School. The girls also won the Best Jumps Award and the Overall best Senior Score in Cheer and Dance.

The CHS Dance Team also took home the prestigious Overall Grand Champion Award, achieving the highest score for both dance and cheer by defeating 24 other teams.

The Cleveland Middle School Dance Team excelled as well. They won first in Junior Pom, second in Junior Jazz, and third in Junior Hip Hop defeating many middle school teams.

The CHS and CMS Dance Team members are coached by Kelly Ann Owens. Owens is a graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts. She has been the coach of the Cleveland Middle School Team for 19 years and the Cleveland High School Team for two years. She is an eighth-grade math and Algebra 1 teacher at Cleveland Middle School.

She is assisted by Jessica Garcia with the CHS Dance Team. Danielle Farrell is the CMS and CHS Dance Teams’ choreographer and rehearsal assistant.
