Dr. Christopher Camp was recently named Alumnus of the Year for Lee University’s Department of Natural Sciences.
According to Jo Beth Boyer, lecturer in biology and health science at Lee, Camp is one of the youngest professors of surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He also pioneered a shoulder reconstruction surgery for athletes.
Camp currently holds many professional positions at Mayo Clinic, including associate program director in orthopedic surgery residency program and assistant director for the Mayo Clinic Orthopedic Sports Medicine Research Fellowship.
Camp also served as one of the team physicians for the New York Mets baseball team and is currently working with the Minnesota Twins baseball team as its director of high performance.
Camp graduated Lee in 2006 with a bachelor of science. He earned his doctor of medicine from Mayo Medical School and his Orthopedic Surgery Residency from Mayo Clinic.
“Dr. Camp is at the top of his game professionally,” said Boyer. “More importantly, he is a kind, humble family man with a strong faith.  I am proud to call him my friend.”
Camp has won several other awards for his professional work including the 2019 Teacher of the Year in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Mayo Clinic. His research papers have also received recognition, such as his report: “Summative Report on Time Out of Play for Major and Minor League Baseball: An Analysis of 49,955 Injuries from 2011 through 2016,” which won the 2018 Major League Baseball Paper of the Year Award.
Camp was presented the Department Alum Award during a breakfast at the university’s Homecoming earlier this month.
