Tuesday night’s final results in “The Voice” were no big surprise, but no less a huge disappointment for many Cleveland fans pulling for former Lee University student Brooke Simpson.
The eventual winner, Chloe Kohanski, and the show, do have strong connections to the Volunteer State — for the third straight year.
Chloe Kohanski of of Nashville is the winner of 2017’s season 13 of the show, joining Knoxville’s Chris Blue in the winner’s circle from a year ago, and Lee University graduate Jordan Smith in 2015.
Chloe edged out Addison Agen of Fort Wayne, Ind., for this year’s title, after the two advance to the final 2. These two, and Simpson, had dominated most of the competition in recent weeks.
Simpson wound up in third place, with Dickson’s Red Marlow, another Tennessee resident, eliminated Tuesday night in fourth place.
Southeast Tennessee fans of the show were stunned Tuesday evening when NBC pulled the NBC network feed from AT&T’s U-verse on Channel 3 in Chattanooga, apparently due to a break-up in contract negotiations between the two.
The public access network was still available for AT&T viewers via alternate methods — computer, smartphone and with rabbit ears — but a mass of complaints still lit up the AT&T switchboard.
Several parties and gatherings were planned in the area, especially by Lee University students.
Although the university did not get its second winner of the show in a three-year period, this 13th season still featured outstanding competition with Cleveland community involvement ... and for Tennessee overall.
Kohanski gives Coach Blake Shelton another winner on the shoe. Marlow was also on Shelton’s team.
Brooke’s advancement to the final was a first for Coach Miley Cyrus, while Coach Adam Levine had another strong contender with Agen.
Kohanski wins a national recording contract with her victory, but all of the finalists are probably destined for a tremendous boost in their entertainment pursuits.
