Bradley County Schools cancels prom for 2020

Prom for the Bradley County Schools Class of 2020 has been canceled.

The announcement came over social media on Monday. The school district said it was a “tough decision” made “after much deliberation.”

Originally scheduled for the spring, prom was postponed due to COVID-19 and the forced closure of schools after spring break. Tennessee’s first case of COVID-19 came on March 5, one day before students’ unexpected last day of in-person classes.

“After much deliberation and as a safety measure against the spread of COVID-19, Bradley Central and Walker Valley High schools have made the tough decision to cancel proms that are scheduled to be held in July,” the announcement said. “As upsetting as this news is, we want you to know that this decision was not made lightly as we had hoped we could still hold this memorable event.”

The cancellation comes as Bradley County Schools is deliberating how it will safely return for in-person learning in the fall.

Additional information will be published in Wednesday's edition of the Cleveland Daily Banner.
