Ocoee Theatre announces auditions for upcoming show

Ocoee Theatre recently announced that it’s holding auditions for the uproariously funny comedy “Boeing Boeing,” on Jan. 2 and 3 at p.m. in the Community Room at the Cleveland Bradley County Library.
The show dates for “Boeing Boeing” are Feb. 10, 11, 16, 17 and 18 at The Venue Creekside on Inman Street in Cleveland.

“Boeing Boeing” is a classic farce written by French playwright Marc Camoletti and translated by Beverley Cross and Francis Evans. The show has been produced worldwide to incredible success, and now Ocoee Theatre is bringing this show to Cleveland.
Candy Tapper, president of the theater group said, “This will be one of our most challenging productions. It’s filled with physical comedy, it’s fast-paced, and so much depends on timing.”
The internet site Mall on Sunday, in reference to "Boeing Boeing," gives this suggestion to potential audience members: “Fasten your seatbelts for the most deliriously funny flight of your life."

Paige Smith, a veteran actor with experience both on and off the stage, will direct the play. She’s eager to start casting and welcomes experienced actors as well as those who "only dream of appearing on the stage."
According to Tapper, “Most likely, the director will be looking for people who are willing to open up and take on, not only, the character’s lines, but their facial expressions and physical demeanor. In other words, the play calls for individuals who are willing to be uninhibited and jump into these fun, complex and physically demanding roles.”

The main cast consists of six colorful characters: Bernard, a handsome American architect who tries to balance a love life by way of an elaborate scheme to keep three lovely ladies apart; Berthe, a longtime live-in maid and cook who keeps her employer’s revolving-door lifestyle going until she’s had enough; Robert, a kind and witty friend who admires Bernard's social life until he finds himself too involved as things spin out of control; and, three lovable stewardesses, Gabriella, a sultry Italian woman who is full of fire; Gretchen, a German crew member who can spin from soft and cuddly to intense passion; and Gloria, an American lady who has a vigorous appetite for food and love.

Audition attendees may want to check out the Ocoee Theatre’s Facebook page and sign up for the audition event.

In addition to the on-stage talent, Ocoee Theatre needs volunteers for all phases of production, such as set construction, backstage duties, costume design, technical crew, hospitality, and more. Interested volunteers should come to the auditions or call 423-472-8896.
Although the auditions are at the Cleveland Bradley County Public Library and play rehearsals will be on Cleveland State’s campus, the show will be performed on stage in February at The Venue Creekside, 527 Inman St., Cleveland.
“Boeing Boeing” is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French Inc.
