Bodhran residency for 4th and 5th Grades

Posted

Andy Kruspe, a Huntsville-based bodhran teacher and performer, conducted a bodhran residency for grades four and five at Valley View and Michigan Avenue elementary schools the week of Feb. 19-22. Students were exposed to the music and culture of Ireland, as well as correct playing techniques for the bodhran, an Irish frame drum. Each school hosted a parent/student drum night where students and parents learned about the history of the drum and experienced playing the bodhran together. "Mr. Kruspe was an outstanding teaching artist, and we look forward to having him back in the future to work with our students,” said Cara Rogers, Michigan Avenue music teacher. A special thank you was extended to the Allied Arts Council for its generous grant in bringing Kruspe from Alabama to Cleveland.
