Lee University’s Dr. Luis Almeida recently received a special invitation to participate in a photography group article published on Artsy Shark, an online business and art promotion site. The resulting “Artist Showcase” article is featured on www.artsyshark.com and its corresponding social media outlets through Jan. 31.
“Artsy Shark features stellar art,” said Almeida. “I'm flattered they chose my work to be displayed on their showcase.”
This was a juried international competition for a featured artist selection. Though Almeida did not receive a featured artist selection, he received the equivalent to a runner-up position based strictly on his photography. The judges based their decisions on artists' websites and social media platforms.

The Smithsonian Magazine also featured his photo “Fantasy Photo Shoot” in its November Altered Images collection category. “Fantasy Photoshoot” is the cover photo for the category out of 401 photos picked out from over 60,000 photographs in the category, according to Almeida.
Almeida joined Lee’s Department of Communication Arts in 2017 as an associate professor of communication. He has published articles in three continents relating to technology and has presented in academic international conferences for over 10 years. Coming from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he is fluent in English and Portuguese. He has been featured in a number of outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, O Globo Newspaper, and Radio CBN.
