65 Sister Begins Fundraising for Great Strides

65 Sister’s team, Moving for Mk, has begun its fundraising efforts for the Lee University Great Strides Walk which will take place on Saturday, March 24, to raise awareness and money for the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Foundation.

Throughout the weekend of Feb. 3, several Lettering 101 workshops were held. There were four workshops with 140 participants. At each event, Jade Goss, founder of 65 Sister and team leader for Moving for Mk, taught participants modern calligraphy.

The team will continue to fundraise with more lettering workshops on Feb. 23 and 24, in addition to Cooking for a Cure on Saturday, Feb. 17, which will feature Chef Richmond Flowers, who will talk participants through a menu featuring pasta, bread and chocolate while teaching valuable cooking skills.

“These workshops are curated to be a fun way to raise funds for our team Moving for Mk,” says Goss, “but what I love the most is that we get to share the story of my sister Marykate and our organization 65 Sister with each participant.”

Goss started 65 Sister in spring 2017 in honor of her sister Marykate, who lived with CF for 18 years.

“The story of each person with CF matters, and it is this 65 community that is ultimately inspiring us to work toward a cure,” said Goss.

The Great Strides event will rally hundreds of community participants and Lee University students to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. It is expected this year’s event will bring the grand total raised locally since 2001 to over a million dollars.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is a nonprofit donor-supported organization dedicated to attacking cystic fibrosis from every angle. Its focus is to support the development of new drugs to fight the disease, improve the quality of life for those with CF, and ultimately find a cure.
