Cleveland State's men's basketball team took on Combine Preparatory School Wednesday in its first game of 2019, and came away with a convincing 78-60 victory.
The game started with Cleveland State winning the tip, but it was Combine Preparatory scoring the first points of the game. In a back-and-forth affair early in the battle, Combine Preparatory showed resilience in the paint. However, the Cougars took the lead for good at the seven-minute mark in the first half as Collin Herron dropped in a smooth 3-pointer to let CSCC take a 19-16 lead.
Cleveland State refused to give up its lead for the rest of the way, opening up the paint on Combine's end of the court and displaying amazing speed and ball movement in transition. Cleveland State ended the first half with a 14-3 scoring run.
The Cougars' largest lead of the game came in the second half. The win puts the Cougars at 5-8 (2-4) on the season. They will look to remain in the win column against Chattanooga State Community College on Saturday in a road matchup.
