The Cleveland State basketball teams traveled to Chattanooga State over the weekend and battled to a split with the Tigers.
The CSCC women walked away with a 56-51 victory, while the Cougars dropped an 80-64 decision to the Tigers.
Leading the Lady Cougars was Michaela Bennefield, who reached a season-high 18 points. Bennefield also snagged five rebounds and picked up four steals. Jordan Smith had a solid evening as well, scoring 13 points with seven rebounds and two assists. Za'kkria Robinson contributed 10 points to go with eight rebounds and two steals. Britnay Gore went 4-of-7 from the field for nine points while also snagging seven rebounds and recording two blocks.
As a team, the Lady Cougars shot 40 percent from the field, 33 percent from the 3-point line and 52 percent from the charity stripe.
The victory puts Cleveland State at 5-9 on the season with a 3-3 conference record. The Lady Cougars have won two games in a row and will look to continue their winning ways on the road at Walters State, Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Leading the Cougars was Jonathon King who dropped in 19 points and pulled down three rebounds. Delaino Walker was a monster on the boards posting a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Demonte Person dished the rock with four assists to go along with his 10 points.
As a team, the Cougars shot 30 percent from the field, 29 percent from the arc and 52 percent from the free-throw line.
On the season, the Cougars sit at 5-9 (2-5) and will look to get back into the win column at Walters State.
