She was born on August 19, 1947, to Charles Vincent Howard Goodine and Beatrice (Dunn) Goodine. She is also preceded in death by two sisters: Wilma J. Goodine and Sylvia A Goodine; her grandparents: Leola Adair Dunn and John Thomas Dunn and also her husband, Hoyt Cox.
She was a member of North Cleveland Church of God and was a graduate of College Hill School. She was previously employed by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in Los Angeles, Calif.
She was president of the resident council at the Cleveland Housing Authority for a number of years, first serving at Walker Street and then later at Lay and Elrod Street. She also headed a “Clothes Closet” at Lay and Elrod for the residents to come and receive clothes. She would cook meals and serve the residents at Christmas and Easter, and would also provide gifts for all the kids that came by. She also had a Bible study at the Lay and Elrod site for the residents every Thursday afternoon where fellow members of North Cleveland Church of God would come and assist her.
She was a member of Women Reaching Women and J.O.Y. Fellowship (Just Older Youth). She loved going to the (TCAC) Tennessee Community Assistance Corporation housing conferences to represent the residents of the Cleveland Housing Authority. She went to Pigeon Forge, a number of times, as well as Florida, New Orleans and Washington, D.C. while serving as president of resident council. She was a blessing to her community and she loved the people in the Cleveland Housing Authority. She had a quiet and loving spirit, always ready to assist in any way she could. She loved her family and was always the peacemaker.
Survivors include her loving son, Dominique (Heather) Goodine-Cox; two beloved grandchildren, whom she loved very dearly and truly were her heart: Kaylyn Elizabeth-Ann Goodine-Cox and Kendrick Dominique Goodine-Cox; three loving sisters: Dorothy M. Stevenson of Los Angeles, Calif., Nellie L. Goodine-Cooper of Ringgold, Ga., and Peggy Goodine of Cleveland; three brothers: Bobby L. (Betty) Goodine, of Raymond Mo., Charles V. Goodine, of Mo., and Dennis H. (Virginia) Goodine of Cleveland; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and many cousins; three special and devoted friends: Forestine Bowers, Pat Toney and Floyd Lovelace.
The family will receive friends Wednesday July 3, 2013, from 11 a.m. to 1.p.m. with the funeral beginning at 1 p.m. at North Cleveland Church of God with Pastor Mitch Maloney officiating and the Rev. Simon Hall eulogist.
Interment will follow at Fort Hill Cemetery with Dennis Goodine, Jr., Eddie Goodine, John Patrick Goodine, Julius Porter, Justin and Jason Ware serving as pallbearers.
