The Ocoee Middle School sixth-grade team is off to a winning start to the new hoops season, coming out on top in five of their first seven games.

After dropping the season opener 29-27 in overtime to Rhea County, the young Colts reeled off four straight wins over Lake Forest, Athens, Rhea County and Philadelphia before falling to South Cumberland.

The OMS squad started what they hope is a new winning streak Monday night against visiting Meigs County, to the tune of 42-16.

According to coach Ed Coates, so far in the young season the Colts have been led offensively by Saylor Clark, Blake Campbell and Ashton Boyd. Defensive hustle by Tucker Carpenter, Tanner Nation and Braden Davis have led to numerous turnovers and easy points. Rebounding by Clark and Carpenter has aided in a lot of fast-break baskets.

OMS will be hosting crosstown rival Cleveland Middle on Nov. 19.

Lady Colts defeat Rhea

The Ocoee Middle Lady Colts earned a 37-20 win over Rhea County Monday night.

OMS held a 15-3 lead after the first quarter and went into halftime with a 26-9 advantage. The Lady Colts added 10 points in the third before closing out the win.

Abbey Davis led the team with 14 points, Haley Jones scored 11, Lauren Lay added six and Macey Clark and Lindsey Wyatt tossed in three points apiece.

"Rhea is a scrappy young team who is always tough. We played a hard zone defense and an inside outside game on offense to secure the victory," said OMS coach Joe Spencer.
