Alert investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division of the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office led to the arrest of James K. Wilson Jr. on June 13 for the theft of HVAC equipment from a home on Waterlevel Highway.

The home was vacant and had a Realtor’s for sale sign in the front yard. The sign and a four-ton air conditioning unit were taken.

Quick response to the theft resulted in Wilson’s arrest within hours at a scrap metal business where pieces of the unit were taken.

Detectives were able to initially match pieces of the disassembled unit with a description of the unit and subsequently made positive identification after securing its serial number.

Wilson, who is 43 years old and resides on Dalton Pike, was charged with theft of property.

He remains in custody.

Other investigations are underway of similar thefts involving vacant homes in Bradley County but no charges have been filed in those matters at this time.

Detective Carl Maskew said real estate agents and homeowners should regularly check on sites that are for sale and unoccupied.
