James Phillip “J.P.” Bernard Westfield of Cleveland was named Teacher of the Year at Dalton High School Wednesday.

A 1996 graduate of Cleveland High School, Westfield has a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from Lee University. He also ahs a masters in education.

He has been teaching and coaching for seven years.

He was nominated and chosen by his peers at Dalton High School for the Teacher of the Year honor.

In the nomination, it was noted Westfield “exemplifies an outstanding teacher as he has taken non-accelarating classes to high levels of performance.”

It was also noted “ he works endlessly not only to improve their academics, but to help them grow personally as young adults.”

Westfield has recently been hired to teach math in the Cleveland City School System.

He is married to Jada Westfield. They have two children: Jaleya and Jalen.
