Wayne J. Goodwill, 82, a longtime resident of Cleveland, went home to be with his Heavenly Father, Sunday morning, Nov. 3, 2013.

He was born in Union City, Pa., on Feb. 12, 1931, a son of the late Carl William and Gertrude Louise Goodwill.

He lived in North East, Pa., until relocating his family to Cleveland in 1972. He worked and retired from the Bowater Southern Paper Corporation.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cleveland. He was an ordained deacon and Sunday School teacher as well as an member of the Gideon’s International.

He was also a member of the Cleveland Emmaus Community and enjoyed volunteering at the Tennessee Aquarium.

He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army, having faithfully served his country during the Korean War. Above all, he will be remembered for being a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a very godly man who will be missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by the mother of his children, Jean Montgomery Goodwill; and two brothers: Eugene Goodwill and Charles Goodwill.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 12 years: Mary Arnold Goodwill; five daughters: Debbie Ownby (Mervin), Laurie McGee (Marty) of Ringgold, Ga., Brenda Campbell (Stacy) of Brunswick, Ga., Kristen Duncan (Jack) of Cookeville and Janelle Martin (Dana); one son, David Goodwill (Angie); and one stepson Greg Arnold (Penny) of Bristow, Va.; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Florence Croscut of North East, Pa., Eva Martin (Richard) of Largo, Fla. and Winnie Walter of Canada; one brother, William Goodwill (Shirley); one brother-in-law, David Montgomery (Marge), of North East, Pa.; and numerous other extended family members, church family and a host of special friends.

A celebration of his life is planned for Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 1275 Stuart Road N.E. in Cleveland with Pastor Steve Morgan and the Rev. Bert Jones officiating.

The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church on Wednesday afternoon from 3 until the 7 p.m. service time.

The family will hold a private interment on Thursday in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial be made in Wayne’s memory to the Gideon’s International.
