Britain’s Ministry of Defense recently released more than 8,000 pages of classified UFO records that document rare military and public reports of unidentified flying objects. These objects are appearing all over the world, causing some to believe aliens are visiting our planet.
Nick Pope who headed up the British government’s UFO project, analyzing classified files at the Ministry of Defense from 1991-93, said, “The Ministry of Defense’s position was: We don’t know what these things are, we don’t believe they’re of any defense significance. But it remained open-minded about the possibilities of extraterrestrial life.”
Are you open to this idea? Many people don’t know what to believe. For example, the files released by British officials include several air traffic controllers who were so worried about being fired, they demanded their names be kept off the official report.
The men claim an unidentified flying object landed at the airport they were overseeing in the east of England at 4 p.m. on April 19, 1984. They described how they were helping guide a small plane to a landing on runway 22 when they were distracted by a brightly lit object approaching runway 27 without clearance.
It touched down briefly, then took off again at tremendous speed in a near-vertical climb. The incident was taken seriously because it was reported by experienced air traffic controllers. It is one of the few that was never explained.
The most fascinating UFO encounter I ever heard was the Sept. 19, 1961, alien abduction account given by New Hampshire couple Betty and Barney Hill.
The couple was driving along U.S. Route 3 shortly after midnight, after a vacation in Quebec, Canada, when Betty spotted a very bright light that seemed to be making strange maneuvers in the sky and following them. At first, neither of the two recalled any abduction or the unaccounted two hours of lost time.
But when they were hypnotized separately, a chilling account of alien abduction was told by both. The incident was widely publicized and adapted into a book and a 1975 television movie called “The UFO Incident.”
What most people never knew is that it was more than two years after the incident that the Hills underwent hypnosis to recall this abduction.
During those two years, Betty was writing and rewriting about her nightmares and sharing them with her husband. Skeptics believe their accounts were so similar, although not identical, due to her influence on her husband’s subconscious, which concerned their psychiatrist as well.
I might also volunteer a secret told to my wife and I at a gathering of close friends in the mid-1980s. A woman named Alma had retired as a high ranking U.S. Air Force official and was working as a registered nurse at the time.
She told us in a careful whisper how the U.S. had actually built low-flying aircraft that resembled UFOs to conduct secret government experiments. She said they would take them out, conduct experiments on people and hypnotize them to forget what happened. She confessed in shame she had participated in this. We were speechless.
Years later we saw an episode of “The X-Files” where the U.S. government was involved in conducting such covert “alien abductions” as this woman had described. Was that fictitious episode based on any facts?
I guess it’s no more far-fetched to believe classified tests were being run on unsuspecting people under hypnosis by the government than to believe aliens from another planet are doing it.
Does all of this information leave you wondering what is real and what is a hoax? Join the crowd.
I suppose if a flying object is unidentified by the people seeing it, by definition that would make it a UFO, but not necessarily an aircraft from another planet, solar system, galaxy or dimension. This universe has a lot of unexplained celestial phenomena occurring and some of it may find its way to our tiny globe in space, including strange lights.
God’s Word, however, informs us there is life in outer space. Psalm 104:4 says God “makes His angels spirits.” These invisible creatures in the spirit realm loyally serve God. But there are also what Ephesians 6:12 calls “evil spirits in the heavenly places” — New Living Translation.
According to 2 Corinthians 11:14, Satan can transforms himself “into an angel of light.” Revelation 12:9 says he deceives the whole world. Would it be beyond such wicked spirits to add to these UFO sightings just to keep people looking to the skies, instead of turning to God? You decide.
At the same time, who can say for sure if our Grand Creator has not created life somewhere out there? After all, there’s certainly enough space.
