We are a godless society. We are a people who call good evil and evil good.

The Bible says we are near the cliff, and nothing less than the unmerited favor of God will rescue us.

In fact, we may have already gone too far. The Scriptures speak expressly about us and three times it says, “God gave them over.” Note this reference:

“God ... gave them over to a depraved mind ... they are God-haters, insolent, arrogant ... faithless, heartless ...”

“They know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death ...” (Romans 1:28-32).

But society insists on defying God. We don’t want Him on our money, in our schools, nor in our public squares.

The Bible is archaic, the Flood and Jonah and the whale are myths, and the Virgin Birth never happened. Little wonder God says He “has given ... [us] over.” We are a sex-obsessed people, even to the point that the government endorses promiscuity and requires firms to furnish contraceptives to employees.

Recently a young woman approached her friends and proclaimed, “I lost my virginity last night,” and the crowd cheered.

On Aug. 26, 2012, bare-breasted women walked down the street in Asheville, N.C. The Sunday afternoon parade was sponsored by

Organizer Jeff Johnson criticized Asheville City Council members for asking people to stay away from the parade.

During the week of July 16, 2012, Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy was lambasted for standing up for traditional marriage.

Cathy’s comment was simple: “We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.”

There is nothing new about the term, “new normal.” It’s immorality is as old as the Ten Commandments which shout, “Thou shalt not commit adultery,” and God’s Law opposes and condemns all sexual sins.

Nonetheless, God still loves the world and will save anyone who will turn from his or her sins and accept Christ as Lord.

Joe Wright, pastor of Central Christian Church in Wichita, Kan., prayed the invocation one day at the Kansas House of Representatives in Topeka.

Here is his prayer:

“Heavenly Father, We come before You today to ask Your forgiveness and seek Your direction and guidance.

“We know Your Word says, ‘Woe to those who call evil good,’ but that's exactly what we have done.

“We have lost our Spiritual equilibrium and inverted our values.

“We confess that; we have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word and called it pluralism; We have worshiped other gods and called it multiculturalism; We have endorsed perversion and called it an alternative lifestyle;

“We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery; We have neglected the needy and called it self preservation; We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare; We have killed our unborn and called it choice;

“We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable; We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem; We have abused power and called it political savvy; We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition;

“We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression; We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.

“Search us, O God, and know our hearts today; try us and see if there be some wicked way in us; cleanse us from every sin and set us free.

“Guide and bless these men and women who have been sent here by the people of this state and who have been ordained by You, to govern this great state of Kansas.

“Grant them your wisdom to rule and may their decisions direct us to the center of Your will. I ask in the name of Your Son, the living Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.”
