First Things First, a nonprofit community resource organization dedicated to strengthening families in Tennessee understands the challenges today’s teenagers face.
To empower young people, First Things First combined resources with the Boys and Girls Club of Cleveland for their annual Summer Blast all day event.
Local teens ages 14 through 18 were able to learn how to communicate better, learn the do’s and dont’s of dating, how to set goals, ways to resolve conflicts successfully, participate in active workshops led by professionals and peer leaders and receive helpful tips to navigate through the teen years.
Debora Gunn, project director for First Things First, said they are thrilled to be able to bring the Summer Blast program to Cleveland/Bradley County.
“It’s a fun and exciting event for teens which is why it’s called Summer Blast,” Gunn said.
“The workshops and classes give dialogue opportunity for teens to learn a greater understanding of who they are and the skills to make good decisions with dating relationships, she said.”
The goal of the Summer Blast event was for attendees to walk away equipped with the knowledge to make wise and healthy decisions.
