Spatial Effects Bluegrass will headline the free Cowboy Gospel Jubilee tonight at 7 at the Cleveland Cowboy Church.

“This is quite possibly the show of the year,” said Will Nichols, producer of the Jubilee. “It’s been nearly two years since we’ve been able to get this band up here. They are that good!”

Hailing from North Georgia, the unique musical fare and professional-class musicianship of Spatial Effects sets them apart from traditional Bluegrass bands. Their recipe for Bluegrass music includes several degrees in music, a heavy dose of creativity, and a sometimes off-the-wall sense of humor.

Spatial Effects is composed of Earl Brackin on mandolin, Tom Brown on banjo and harmonica, David Crawford playing guitar, Betsy Blankenship playing upright bass, and Gary Thompson on fiddle.

“Their newest CD, ‘Just A Closer Walk’ was recorded live over a six-month period at numerous historic churches, capturing the unique acoustics of each remarkable structure,” said Nichols. “It’s a remarkable achievement.”

The band has performed at a variety of venues in the Southeast including the NightFall Concert Series and the Riverbend Music Festival. They have opened for such notables as Mountain Heart, Goose Creek Symphony, and the Lovell Sisters.

“There is no admission to the event and the public is invited. It’s a casual, come-as-you-are evening,” said Nichols. “And each week we give away some terrific door prizes. We pass the hat for the band and to help with expenses.”

Regulars on the Jubilee include Southern Gospel singer Amy McAlister, singer-songwriter Elmer Bramlett, Emily Varnell, “The Wild Man” Danny O’Boyle and the Cowboy Church Band and Chorale, said Nichols.

The Cowboy Gospel Jubilee is held at the Cleveland Cowboy Church in the Dockery Heights community between Blue Springs and Blackburn Roads.

The address is 3040 Blythe Road, Cleveland, TN 37323. The show features both gospel and moral secular music performed in a variety of genres.
