Soccer Lady Raiders make clean sweep of CCS Tournament

CHATTANOOGA — Cleveland (9-5) finished their successful sweep of the Chattanooga Christian School soccer tournament after defeating Shelbyville Central 4-2 on Saturday afternoon.

McKenzie Harris scored the lone goal for Lady Raiders in the first half of the match, and by the midway point the score was knotted at 1-all.

In the final 40 minutes of play, Sam DeBien got a hat trick, which included a goal on a penalty kick.

The Lady Golden Eagles were only able to add one more goal in the final 40 minutes of play.



On Friday, the Lady Raiders defeated Tennessee High of Bristol 5-2.

Sohara Perez got the goal scoring started for Cleveland just under two minutes into the match, with McKenzie Harris getting the assist.

About 13 minutes later, Harris got a goal of her own, with the assist by DeBien.

DeBien got her chance for a goal in the 43rd minute of play.

Harris got her second goal of the match seven minutes later, and four minutes later the Lady Vikings were able to get their first goal of the evening.

The final Lady Raider goal was scored by Perez, her second of the evening, with just under 15 minutes left.

Tennessee High got their second and final goal four minutes later.

Cleveland had 14 shots on goal during the match, while the Lady Vikings got 11 shots on goal.

The Lady Raiders’ keeper, Jenna Scoggins, blocked 9 out of the 11 shots she faced Friday evening.

Cleveland shut out Boyd-Buchanan 4-0 in Thursday’s opening round match.

The Lady Raiders will play their final District 5-AAA game of the regular season Tuesday at Soddy-Daisy.


The Cleveland Middle School girls soccer team finished the regular season schedule with a 1-1 draw against Athens Jr. High Thursday evening.

The Lady Raiders finished the regular season with a record of 4-1-7. The draw earned the Lady Raiders a first round home game against Chilhowee Middle School.

The game will be played at the CMS field Monday at 6 p.m. The winner will go on to face Ocoee Middle Tuesday.
