Shirley Jo Thompson, 76, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday morning, May 18, 2013, in a local hospital.

She was born on August 22, 1936, in Athens, and was raised during her childhood years there by her parents the late Roy Wayne and Duvie Pauline Thompson.

She has made Cleveland her home for the past 43 years. She was of the Baptist faith.

She worked at Cooke Manufacturing Company for more than 25 years until she took early retirement to care for her mother. She spent most of her days caring and enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by one sister, Jean Wright; and one brother-in-law Cooksey Shugart.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory one daughter, Kimberly Knighten and her husband, Timothy; two granddaughters: Christy Hughes and husband, Brandin and Kelly Ledford and husband, William; one grandson, Dustin Knighten and wife, Amy; two sisters: Katherine Hafley (Charles) and Martha Shugart, all of Cleveland; three brothers: Jimmy Thompson (Sue) of Cleveland, Harvey Thompson (Bonnie) of Florida and Dennis Thompson (Sue) of Georgia; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous other extended family members and friends.

The family will receive friends tonight, May 21, 2013, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the parlor of Companion Funeral & Cremation Service.

A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Southview Baptist Church, 533 13th Street SE in Cleveland with the Rev. Ronald Ledford officiating.
