Knight has served as the Bradley County engineer for the past 17 years overseeing the planning, engineering, building inspection, stormwater and floodplain management offices.
A graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, she obtained a bachelor of science in civil engineering with a major in construction and a minor in transportation.
Upon receiving her engineering degree, Knight worked seven years in Florida with that state’s Department of Transportation where she was a project manager and project engineer. Her responsibilities included the supervision of employees, contractors and consulting inspectors in the construction of roads and bridges throughout the state.
Upon returning to Tennessee, Knight worked three years performing road design, utility design and sight design with Cook and Spencer Consultants. She then worked for the city of Chattanooga as the engineering design manager prior to becoming the Bradley County engineer.
Knight is a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Tennessee and is very active in the Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers. She received the 2011 PEGASUS (Professional Engineer in Government Achievement and Service in the United States) from NSPE. She was chosen from several nominations throughout the United States. She was honored with a Fellow designation from NSPE in 2007.
As the American Society of Civil Engineers Region 4 director, she represented eight states on the National Board.
Knight has served on many national and local committees. She received her Fellow level of membership from ASCE in 2008. Knight serves on the Regional and Infrastructure Disaster Resilience Task Force and the State and Local Security and Emergency Management Agencies Committee for the Infrastructure Security Partnership.
She is a Certified Floodplain Manager through the Association of State Floodplain Managers. She is also a Certified Building Inspection Engineer with the National Association of Building Inspection Engineers. She is an active member of the American Public Works Association, the National Association of County Engineers and serves as the vice chair for the Tennessee Association of Floodplain Managers.
She is also on the Economic Development Council for the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce and the Technology Advisory Council for Cleveland State Community College.
Knight has received several awards during her career. Some of these include 1996 Young Engineer of the Year for Tennessee, 2000 Government Engineer of the Year for the State, 2003 Outstanding Engineer of the Year, 2003 Daniel B. Barge Award for Distinguished Service, 2008 Distinguished Service, and 2010 Outstanding Engineer of the Year.
She is also recognized in Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who of American Women, Who’s Who in Management and Who’s Who in Government.
Knight attends White Oak Baptist Church. She is the daughter of Wanda Weaver of Decatur and Johnny Norton of Bradley County.
Her hobbies include reading, taking care of animals and spoiling nieces, nephews and grandkids.
