Ronald Eugene “Ronnie” McDowell, 30, of Calhoun, went to be with his Lord and Savior unexpectedly, Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at his home.

A lifelong resident of Calhoun, he attended Calhoun Elementary School. He later graduated from McMinn County High School, in 2002. He was a member of Calhoun First Baptist Church.

Being a kidney transplant survivor of nearly 20 years, he was an inspiration. His love of life and optimism were a blessing to all who knew Ronnie. He loved life and enjoyed it to its fullest. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed his “Facebook Family.” He will be greatly missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Boyd Eugene McDowell; and an uncle, Ronald Phillip Sorah.

Survivors include his father and mother, Stanley and Jeanne Sorah McDowell of Calhoun; his brother and sister-in-law, Phillip and Courtney McDowell of Cleveland; his maternal grandparents, the Rev. Ron and Margaret Sorah of Calhoun and his paternal grandmother, Martha Rose McDowell of Riceville; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

The funeral will be held at 7 p.m. today at Calhoun First Baptist Church with Dr. Joe Sorah and the Rev. Larry Sorah officiating.

Family and friends will meet at Calhoun First Baptist Church at 10 a.m. Tuesday, for graveside services at 11 a.m. in Calhoun Community Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Aaron McDowell, Nathan Leamon, Ryan Flowers, Paul Sorah, Josh Sorah, Andrew Sorah, Robert Hagans and Steve Salisbury.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. at Calhoun First Baptist Church, prior to the service.
