Early voting has begun for the May 6 primary races, but there will be another chance for voters who have yet to cast ballots to hear from local candidates.

The Cleveland Lions Club, Rotary Club of Cleveland and the Bradley County Bar Association have teamed up to sponsor a political forum to be held Tuesday evening beginning at 7 p.m.

The event will take place at the George R. Johnson Theatre on the campus of Cleveland State Community College.

Candidates for county commission, road superintendent and sheriff have been invited to participate.

The public is invited to submit questions for the candidates. Questions need to be submitted to the sponsors by 6:30 p.m. that evening.

“For more than 40 years, the Cleveland Lions Club has presented a political forum to our citizens,” said Chip Bryant, the “King Lion” of the Lions Club.

“The Cleveland Lions Club is pleased to have the participation of the Cleveland Rotary Club and the Bradley County Bar Association in making certain that the voters have the information to cast the most knowledgeable and informed vote possible.”

Ashley Owenby, president of the Bradley County Bar Association, joined Bryant in announcing the forum.

“Our organization has joined this tradition of presenting this forum because it is so important that voters know as much as they can about the positions of the candidates and exercise our wonderful freedom of the right to vote for our leaders,” Owenby said.

Cleveland Rotary is participating in the forum “as a part of its civic participation in the life of the community.”

The Lions and Rotary Clubs emphasize they are functioning as non-partisan civic and services organizations and the Cleveland Bar Association is a non-partisan professional organization.

The forum will be broadcast live over WCLE-FM 104.1 and WTNB Charter Channer 5.

Full coverage of the forum will appear in Wednesday’s edition of the Daily Banner.
