In their final regular season game, the Lady Colts of Ocoee Middle dropped Meigs County by a score of 57-37 to run their season record to 17-3.

The Meigs County Lady Tigers came to OMS on Eighth-Grade Night and jumped out to a 20-11 lead over the Lady Colts. OMS coach Jo Spencer employed a man-to-man press against the visitors, adding a bigger defense with positive results as the Lady Colts overtook the girls from Meigs.

The Lady Colts erased the deficit to go up 28-24 at halftime. OMS added 14 more in the third and held Meigs to only six points to lead 42-30. The Lady Colts closed out the final quarter with 15 points to lock up the win.

E.K. Brown led Ocoee with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Hallie Hughes added 15 points, four assists and four steals while C.C. White tossed in 10 points and pulled down six boards. Lanie Houston contributed five points, five assists and six steals while Jillian Walker grabbed seven rebounds.

“This was our last home and regular season game. The Meigs County girls, as always, are tough and physical. They came roaring out and played hard-nosed basketball,” Spencer said.

“We finally got it going with E.K. Brown taking over in scoring and driving to the basket. Also going 9-for-11 at the free through line made a big difference. Along with Hallie Hughes hitting the nets with 15 and C. C. White connecting with 10, Lanie Houston gave great passing from the point guard area, and Jillian Walker came off the bench and gave us a big lift.”

The eighth-grade Lady Colts girls will play in the James C. Haile middle schools state invitational tournament in Murfreesboro beginning Friday night.
