A Cleveland resident since age 7, Larry Hawkins graduated from Bradley Central High School in 1969. He and his high school sweetheart Sha-Ron have been married 44 years.

During his years as youth minister at Salem Baptist Church, he and his wife began creating new ways to teach the youth group about the Word of God and developed a Bible game. Since then, the Hawkinses have written several books, including a book of poetry, “In Dreams I Dwell.”

His latest book, “The Misadventures of Joe Bradley Mullins,” was originally written as a bedtime story for his granddaughter.

Hawkins said it quickly became apparent he would need to write down what he told her, so as not to repeat the same adventure.

After a couple of years, he realized he had enough for two novels. Hawkins found a Christian publisher and after six months of reading, editing and proofing, “The Misadventures of Joe Bradley Mullins” was finished.

Hawkins will speak Tuesday to the United Club at 11:30 a.m. at the Golden Corral.
