Science is changing the way we look at obesity. The onset of the obesity epidemic began in this century with the advent of a more leisurely, less physically demanding lifestyle and the availability of ready-to-eat, calorie-dense foods. While our diets and activity level may have changed in the past century, the human body has not.
If you have ever been interested in weight-loss surgery, come to a seminar to introduce you to some relatively new concepts regarding the disease/biology of obesity and the response of the disease to various therapies available today. Dr. Jack Rutledge, director of the Metabolic Surgery Center at Memorial Hospital, will conduct this educational seminar May 13 at 6 p.m. in the Carmichael House Conference Room. Please call the nonfiction desk to reserve your seat.
