Published by Lee University Press, “College Life: Your Next Chapter,” is a compilation of essays written by Lee faculty that offers freshmen advice and information needed for success on campus.
The book was oriented around the theme of students writing their own success story at a Christian liberal arts institution. Some essays address topics specific to the Lee University culture such as global perspectives, service learning, and student strengths and calling. Others address general topics such as study skills, time management, and social involvement on campus.
Moyen explained, “One goal was to get students to understand that the decisions they make during their first semester have a great impact on their time at Lee. The other goal was to give the practical knowledge that they need to navigate this new environment.”
“We hope to frame student thinking and attitudes toward taking charge of their college success from the moment they walk in the door at Lee University,” Melton added.
Melton, professor of communication and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Lee was a doctoral fellow at Regent University, where he earned his doctorate in rhetoric and an master of arts in journalism. He received his CMA and CBA from International Institute, Texas.
Moyen, recipient of Lee’s 2011 Excellence in Teaching Award, is an associate professor of education and Director of First-year Programs. Moyen completed his doctoral degree in educational policy studies and evaluation at the University of Kentucky.
