The Cleveland Lady Raiders scored single runs in the third, fourth and seven innings to pick up their first softball win in more than a year, Monday against Red Bank. The Lady Lions put one run up in the third in the 3-1 loss.
Haley Hodgson got her first win for the Lady Raiders (1-0) striking out nine Lady Lions while walking only one.
The Lady Raiders scored first on a Red Bank passed ball in the top of the third.
Red Bank countered in the bottom of the inning to tie the game, 1-1.
The Lady Lions gave the lead back to the Lady Raiders in the upper half of the fourth with a with an error that put Cleveland back out front to stay with a 2-1 lead.
In the Cleveland half of the seventh, Hodgson helped her own cause, adding an insurance run with an RBI in the seventh to give the Lady Raiders their first victory of the season.
Ambra Belcher led the Lady Raiders at the plate with two hits, both doubles, in three trips. Amber Botts and Lauren Lee also had hits for Cleveland in the win. Shay Sparks helped the cause with two sacrifice bunts to move runners into scoring position.
