The Cleveland Middle School volleyball teams played Baylor at home Tuesday night in the second matchup in the Raider rivalry this season.

The eighth grade took a tough loss at Baylor a few weeks ago, losing 30-28, 28-26. This time Cleveland's varsity came out on top. After a slow start that put them down 1-0 in the first set (21-25), the Blue Raiders did not miss a beat in the second and third sets, winning 25-12 and 15-9.

Coach Brandi Ownby said she was proud of the way the girls played overall and contributed the momentum change to eighth-grader Emily Jackson, who served for 11 points in one rotation without a single error. Jackson had three aces during her run and forced Baylor to call an early timeout.

"One of our strengths continues to be from the back line," said coach Ownby in reflection over the statistics for the Raider matchup. "We served 15 aces and only had four service errors against Baylor. Our eighth grade served a total of 60 points in three sets. Effective serving makes a huge difference at this age."

Varsity highlights include: Amber Morman with four kills and three digs; Emily Jackson with three aces and two receptions; Emma Flowers with two aces, six digs, 10 kills, and eight assists; Jessie Towe with one dig and one reception; Katie Swafford with two receptions and one dig; Lauren Lee with four aces, three receptions, two digs, four kills, and 11 assists; Regan Fuller with seven receptions, four digs, and two kills; Morgan Moffett with five receptions, five digs, and two kills; Sammie-Kate Eason with one ace, nine receptions, and nine digs; Shanti Mastin with one ace, three receptions, and one dig; Sofia Stamatiadis with four aces, nine receptions, nine digs, and two kills.

The Cleveland Middle varsity record is 17-4. The team will face Ocoee Middle School Wednesday night at home. Game times are 4 p.m. for sixth grade and 5 and 6 for seventh and eighth grade.
