PENSACOLA, Fla. — The Lee University volleyball team battled Gulf South Conference leader West Florida down to the wire in all three sets but dropped a 3-0 (25-23, 27-25, 25-23) decision to the Argonauts on a “Pack it Pink” for Breast Cancer Awareness Saturday in Pensacola, Fla..

The loss gave the Lady Flames a split of the two-match road trip. On Friday Lee defeated West Alabama 3-1 before traveling on down to Florida. Lee went up by eight points in the second set but it was the Argos who came back this time to win 27-25. LIVINGSTON, Ala. - Led by Martins’ 19 kills and eight blocks the Lady Flames defeated West Alabama, 3-1 on Friday evening in Gulf South Conference (GSC) action.

The victory marks the first season sweep for the Lady Flames after they defeated the Tigers back on Sept. 20 to secure their very first GSC triumph.

After battling to take the first set, 26-24 the Lady Flames took a commanding 2-0 advantage with a 25-23 victory in the second frame. The Tigers rallied back to avoid the sweep taking set three, 25-19 before coach Andrea Hudson's club would take the fourth and final set by a 25-23 mark.

Johnson joined Martins in double figures with 12 slams of her own. The junior transfer also added 10 digs to complete the double-double performance. Freshman Blaire Beamer continued to take advantage of more playing time with seven blocks and three services aces. Injuries to Erin Hill and Patty Orozco have given Beamer more time on the court.

The Tigers were paced by Yanesha Johnson who finished the evening with 12 kills. Sadie Beam added 10 slams and 12 digs while Carly Wehling did a little bit of everything registering a triple-double with 10 kills, 12 digs and 24 assists.
